Peers are people in the same age groups. Peer pressure is therefore being convinced or rather finding yourself in a situation whereby your friends make you do something.
Most teenagers are pressured into doing what others are doing. This may happen due to the following reasons.
*They don't want their friends thinking they are silly and stupid.
*They want to try out different things.
*They want to show others what they are capable of doing.
This can make these young people indulge themselves in drugs and do other bad things. They might plan to stealing in order to get what they want. That is, the money for drugs.
Teens lose their focus in life at this stage and need to be guided by professionals. They need good counselling in order to make see what's in the future. And that they have a whole future ahead of them.
You should never underestimate yourself and you should compare yourself to others either.
Do not try to change yourself for others. Just live your life and you'll be happy.
In order to avoid being influenced by peer pressure, teenagers need to do the following.
*Choose the right people to be friends with.
*Hang around with people that do what you like.
*Doing what is right and not being forced into doing what you don't want to.
*Don't compare yourself with others because you're better than anyone.
*Don't let yourself be led away from what you believe in.
*Always believe in yourself.
*Do not let anyone manipulate you into doing anything.
