Life in the slums

One of the hardest thing is living in the slums. Slums are places which are kind of places whereby most people are unemployed, houses are stuck together and there can be dirt although it's not everywhere.
Each person has his or her own way of living, in order to survive there.

In Kenya, the most common Slums include;Kibera, Dandora, Mathare, Huruma, among others.

There are a lot of crimes going on in the slums but the authority just prefer to turn a blind eye to. Which of course is not helping at all. They either ignore or take little action.

Such crimes may include ;Murder. This is common and people just get away with it.

There's also mugging in the slums. You just walk with your belonging displayed and expect to make it home with it. Well, it'll be snatched away from you. This type of crime is the most common one.
It may occur when you're in a secluded place or when you round a corner.

Even if something is snatched away from you and you try asking for help, no one will help you. It's like they say "Everyone for himself and God for us all"

That's exactly it because there's no other explanation.
I don't understand why because people should help one another in times of trouble.

There's also robbery and thiefery. This is because most youths are unemployed and they have to eat, clothe and pay rent.
It's because there's no other way out except to steal.

Even if they have to kill whoever gets in their way to get what they want, it's none of their business. They just don't care as long they've gotten what they wanted.
So stealing becomes the only option. However, this cannot be a justification for their actions, it's poverty and unemployment that causes all.

*The slums are unsafe to walk at night or early mornings. Even during the day one have to be cautious while walking around.
Things will be bad you if you show any stubbornness or unnecessary ego.

There's higher usage of drugs. Drugs like Marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, heroine, khat are used.
These drugs leads people into killing mercilessly, rape and robbery.
The drugs influence them to behave very badly and behave immaturely.
Others are so addicted that they cannot do anything without them.
The cops try their best to make the slums a good place to live in which has not been achieved yet.
Youths are the most affected. They get Killed because of stealing.

They are attacked by mob when they've stolen something like a phone and some are killed at the time.

However, there some positive things in the slums. Young talents are nurtured. For example kids with talent in playing soccer. There are stadiums which ensures that the talent is raised and the kids practise.
For example The Dandora stadium.

Unemployment causes all shortcomings of the slums. The only solution to save lives and improve the living standard of the people living in the slums, is by :

*The government should provide the Youths employment.
*Start rehabilitation centres to conquer usage of drugs.
*Start self help groups for the youths so that they can manage their time well and money.
*Taking legal action to any person who goes against the law.

These will make living in the slums a better place to live in and people will be safe.
